Процесс от нейральной индукции до окончательной дифференцировки нейронов является многоступенчатым. Каждая ступень связана с активацией и/или репрессией генов, которые м.б. использованы как молекулярные маркеры для этих отличающихся событий. Коротко рассмотрены ключевые ступени нейрогенеза в ЦНС позвоночных и оценены маркеры, используемые для их идентификации.
